History of Marianna, Florida

The city of Marianna had an estimated population of 6,230 according to the 2000 census data. It was established in 1828 by Robert Beveridge, a landowner and native of Scotland. The city of Marianna was named after Mary and Anna, the two daughters of Robert Beveridge. The city became the county seat of Jackson County in 1829.

Marianna was also the site for one of the battles during the Civil War. The bloody battle is today remembered as The Battle of Marianna and took place on September 27, 1864.

 

Due to its beautiful historical homes, Marianna is nicknamed “The City of Southern Charm,” and it’s located near I-10 just under the Florida-Alabama border……
